State Flowers
What is West Virginia's State Flower?
West Virginia State Flower - Rhododendron (Rhododendron
maximum)
The Rhododendron is an evergreen shrub that grows
to be approximately 4 meters tall and occasionally
even taller. In 1902 the choice of the West Virginian
state flower was left to the students, and the
outcome was in favor for the Rhododendron. The
students decision was confirmed by legislature
in 1903. The Rhododendron produces white, pink,
and light purple petals.
