What is Rhode Island's State Flower?

In 1897 the school children of Rhode Island
turned in there ballots for the state flower of
Rhode Island. On Arbor Day 1897 the votes were
finalized and the Violet was announced the winner.
Nevertheless, the Violet remained unofficial for
seventy one years until Francis Sherman, teacher
and politician, believed it was about time for
the violet be made a official. So, a bill was
drafted, submitted, and passed in 1968.
