State Flowers
What is New Jersey's State Flower?
New Jersey State Flower - Violet (Viola sororia)
In 1913 the Violet was designated as the New
Jersey State flower, however, due to a technicality
in New Jersey legislature, the Violet was considered
to be of "uncertain status" for fifty years. In
1963 another attempt to officialize the Violet
as the state flower was made. Nevertheless, this
too failed and the Violet was not made the official
state flower until 1971.
