New Hampshire State Flower - Purple Lilac (Syringa
vulgaris)
The Purple Lilac was designated the official
state flower of New Hampshire after a debate about
the merits of several flowers in 1919. The Purple
Lilac won because of it "is symbolic of that hardy
character of the men and women of the Granite
State".
