State Flowers
What is Mississippi's State Flower?
Mississippi State Flower - Magnolia (Magnolia)
Mississippi, perhaps one of the latest to jump
on the state flower bandwagon, did not adopt a
state flower until 1952. Nevertheless, the idea
of adopting a state flower at that time was not
exactly new. In 1900 the floral emblem of Mississppi
was put to the vote of Mississipi school children.
The Magnolia overwhelmingly won, but no legislative
action was taken for some tie. The magnolia flower
has an especially rich fragrance. The blooms are
very large and creamy white. The magnolia tree
is an evergreen.
