State Flowers
What is Minnesota's State Flower?
Minnesota State Flower - Pink and White Lady's
Slipper (Cypripedium reginae)
Like many other state the adoption of a state
flower was prompted by The Chicago World's Fair's
National Garland of Flowers in 1893. The Lady's
Slipper, specifically the Cypripedium calceolus,
was proposed as a possible state flower, a resolution
was made, and then it was quickly passed. However,
it was later found that no such flower could be
found in the state of Michigan. The Legislature
corrected their error placing the Cypripedium
reginae, this time a Lady's Slipper native
to Michigan, as the official state flower.
