State Flowers
What is Georgia's State Flower?
Georgia State Flower - Cherokee Rose (Rosa
laevigata)
Widly distributed by the Cherokee Indians, the
Cherokee Rose was chosen as the state's floral
emblem by the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs
in 1961.
Azalea (state wild flower ) (Rhododendron)
The Azalea was adopted as the official state
flower of Georgia in 1979 by the General Assembly.
The Azalea is a shrub that blooms in the spring
and then wilts a couple weeks later. Interestingly,
the Azelea blooms are extremely toxic to horses,
goats, and sheep.
