State Flowers
What is Arizona's State Flower?
Arizona State Flower - Saguaro Cactus Blossom
(Carnegiea gigantea)
The Saguaro Cactus Blossom was designated as
the state flower of Arizona in 1931 after previously
being designated as the Official Territorial Flower
in 1901. The Saguaro Cactus has a comparatively
long lifespan; each arm of the cactus takes up
to 75 years to grow. The Saguaro Cactus blooms
in May and June, the blooms having a fairly short
life-span opening only at night and then closing
permanently.
