Bag Worms

Q. Do you know anything about the bag worm or bag-worm?

Where You'll Find Them:

Fruits ornamentals shrubs trees (see insecticidal label for specific plants).

Additional Comments:
Infested limbs can be pruned away from the plant and disposed of in the trash.

One of several lepidopterous insects which construct in the larval state a baglike case which they carry about for protection. One species (Plat?ceticus gloveri) feeds on the orange tree. This means that they are like a moth or butterfly but lay eggs in huge hanging baskets or bags. The larvae form and then develop into a voracious insect which will attack your trees and shrubs. Then they will fly away and spread their young once again!

Please remove any evidence of them and discard promptly away from your gardens. Then apply insecticides which I listed above and follow the label directions carefully. wash your hands with warm soapy water and possibly wear a mask when using. Spray in the early AM and on a very still breezeless day.
