Planning a Perennial Garden
Each year there are plants that make an appearance
and this is where perennial gardening plays an
important role. It is necessary for most plants
to be grown either from seeds or by way of transplants
each year. Perennial gardening comprises of plants
such as iris, caladium, yucca, aloe, hibiscus
and tulips that when grown in suitable settings
will reappear every year. For instance, yuccas
bloom in the southwest desert. There is not a
soul to tend to them, nonetheless they continue
to develop and flourish.
A perennial garden once established in no way
indicates that it is all but removed from memory.
A gardener who wishes to appreciate the pretty
visions on display in his garden should invest
time and effort in nurturing and looking after
his garden.
Ahead of setting up the garden, it is necessary
for the gardener to bear in mind certain factors
such as the ideal garden location, the right quantity
of water and sunshine that the garden will receive
and the extent of involvement by the gardener.
Gardens that are planned to endure some degree
of benign disregard also require intermittent
care. In case the gardener wishes to have a perennial
garden, which requires very little maintenance,
he can in no way hope to have fast growing plants
or those that require assistance with pollination.
Plants that are commonly found in that particular
geographical location should be chosen. The plants
have to be on the same scale as the garden dimensions.
The size, hues, and watering requirements should
be more or less alike. Perennial gardening is
destined not to succeed in case a few plants prefer
regular watering unlike their close neighbors
that prefer arid soil and occasional watering.
The gardener should take into account the growing
term of different plants. Quite a few plants have
brief flowering spells whereas other plants have
extended flowering seasons. Certain plants come
into bud in the beginning of the year; some bloom
in summer while others blossom in autumn. A judicious
course of action will enable the gardener to choose
plants that bloom several times during the course
of a year.
Normally, when planning on setting up a perennial
garden, the initial year is thought to be the
least appealing. The plants are barely growing
roots and adapting to their new setting. In the
following year, the plants start to display their
attractions. Certain gardeners may wish to reorganize
the garden setting or put in new plants or take
out the old ones. After three years, the garden
will reveal the fruits of labor, time, and care
devoted. The lovely garden and the talents of
the gardener will draw widespread appreciation
and praise. Modifications can be resorted to but
completely rearranging the whole garden is not
advisable, as it will take a good 3-4 years for
the garden to be fully-grown.
Grow once and reap year on year! This is concept
of perennial gardening.
