Tree Sap Removal

Tree Sap Hero

Sap dripping onto a patio, car, or outdoor furniture beneath a tree is sticky and stubborn, but usually comes off cleanly with the right approach rather than harsh scrubbing.

Removing Fresh Sap

Fresh, still-soft sap often lifts away with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, especially on smooth surfaces like glass or painted metal. Rubbing alcohol on a cloth is effective on most hardier surfaces and evaporates quickly without leaving residue.

On fabric or upholstery, freezing the sap with an ice cube first makes it brittle enough to scrape or flake off before treating any remaining residue.

QUICK TIP

Test any solvent on a small hidden spot first — some finishes, especially on cars or delicate wood furniture, can be damaged by rubbing alcohol or citrus-based cleaners.

Handling Hardened, Old Sap

Sap that's dried and hardened often responds better to a commercial citrus-based adhesive remover or vegetable oil, which softens it before wiping away. A plastic scraper can help lift stubborn hardened spots without scratching most surfaces, used gently after the sap has softened.
