INSECT CONTROL RECIPE

Slugs

A shallow beer trap draws slugs in with yeasty fermentation and drowns them overnight — one of the most reliable low-tech remedies for a damp garden.

Slugs
Prep: 5 minutes
Yields: 1 trap
Organic-friendly

Ingredients

1 shallow container (tuna can or yogurt cup)
Enough cheap beer to fill it halfway

Instructions

1

Dig a small hole in the garden bed and sink the container so its rim sits level with the soil.

2

Fill the container about halfway with beer.

3

Set the trap out in the evening, when slugs are most active.

4

Empty, rinse, and refill every couple of days for best results.

Tip: Sink the container so its rim sits at soil level — slugs need to be able to crawl in easily, and a raised lip will just get climbed over.
