INSECT CONTROL RECIPE
Remedy for Worms on Cabbage
A salt-water rinse before cooking removes any cabbage worms already hiding in the head, while a Bt spray on the plant stops new ones from moving in.
Prep: 15 minutes
Yields: 1 soak
Organic-friendly
Ingredients
1/4 cup salt
1 gallon cold water
Head of cabbage, quartered
Instructions
1
Dissolve the salt in the gallon of cold water.
2
Submerge the quartered cabbage in the salt water and soak for 15 to 20 minutes.
3
Any hidden worms will float or crawl out — rinse the cabbage well afterward.
4
For growing plants, treat with a Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) spray to stop new worms before they can burrow in.
Tip: Row covers over young plants prevent the white cabbage moths from ever laying eggs in the first place, cutting the problem off before it starts.
