Leland cypress grows fast enough to turn a bare property line into a tall, dense green wall within just a few years, making it one of the most popular evergreens for quick privacy screening.
A hybrid conifer valued for its rapid growth and soft, feathery foliage, Leland cypress is planted widely across the southern and eastern U.S. as a windbreak and screening tree, though its speed comes with some tradeoffs in longevity and disease resistance.
Leland cypress wants full sun and well-draining soil, and it tolerates a wide range of conditions, which is part of why it's grown so widely. Good spacing between trees and avoiding overly wet sites helps reduce its susceptibility to canker diseases that can affect stressed plantings.
Because it's a hybrid, Leland cypress produces no viable seed, so all new trees are propagated by cuttings rather than grown from seed.
