Kentucky's State Flower: Goldenrod
Goldenrod (Solidago gigantea) has been Kentucky's official state flower since 1926 — though the decision followed one of the more contentious debates in state-flower history.
Goldenrod vs. the Trumpet Vine
The trumpet vine had long served as the official symbol of the Kentucky Militia, and the War Department argued it deserved the state flower title too. The Kentucky Federation of Women's Clubs pushed for goldenrod instead, and their campaign ultimately won out with a state senate resolution in 1926.

Nebraska also selected goldenrod as its state flower, making the two states an unlikely pair sharing the same golden bloom.
