INSECT CONTROL RECIPE

Homemade Fly Trap

A cut plastic bottle turned upside down forms a one-way funnel — flies follow the bait scent in but can't find their way back out.

Prep: 10 minutes
Yields: 1 trap
Organic-friendly

Materials

1 empty plastic bottle
Scissors
Tape
A piece of overripe fruit or meat scrap as bait

Instructions

1

Cut the top third off the plastic bottle where it starts to narrow into the neck.

2

Place the bait into the bottom section of the bottle.

3

Flip the cut top upside down and nest it inside the bottom section like a funnel, spout facing down.

4

Tape the seam where the two pieces meet so flies can’t escape around the edges.

5

Set the trap where flies are active and empty it every few days.

Tip: Set the trap outdoors away from seating areas — it draws flies in actively, so it works best a short distance from where people gather.
