Hawaii's State Flower: Yellow Hibiscus
Hawaii's state flower is the native yellow hibiscus (Hibiscus brackenridgei), one of only seven hibiscus species found nowhere else on Earth.
Seven Species, One Island Chain
Of the more than 200 hibiscus species worldwide, only seven are truly native to Hawaii: Hibiscus arnottianus, brackenridgei, clayi, furcellatus, kokio, tiliaceus, and waimeae. The yellow-flowered brackenridgei was singled out as the official state flower, standing apart from the many introduced hibiscus varieties commonly seen in Hawaiian gardens and leis today.
