INSECT CONTROL RECIPE
Deluxe Garlic Spray
A stronger, layered version of a classic garlic spray — onion and hot pepper join the garlic for a broader-spectrum repellent against tougher pests.
Prep: 20 min + overnight steep
Yields: about 1 quart
Organic-friendly
Ingredients
1 whole bulb garlic, cloves separated and peeled
1 small onion, chopped
1 hot pepper (such as cayenne), chopped
1 quart water
1 teaspoon mild liquid dish soap
Instructions
1
Blend the garlic, onion, and hot pepper with a small amount of water until smooth.
2
Pour into a jar, add the remaining water, cover, and let steep overnight.
3
Strain out the solids through cheesecloth, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible.
4
Stir in the dish soap so the spray clings to leaves.
5
Spray affected plants thoroughly, avoiding open blooms if pollinators are active.
Caution: Wear gloves when handling and avoid contact with eyes — the hot pepper makes this spray considerably stronger than a plain garlic version.
