Coreopsis, sometimes called tickseed, is one of the most reliable and carefree perennials for adding cheerful yellow color to a sunny garden bed.
A Tough, Rewarding Bloomer
Coreopsis tolerates poor soil, drought, and heat far better than many showier perennials, making it a dependable choice for beginner gardeners or difficult growing spots. Its daisy-like flowers bloom prolifically from early summer well into fall, especially with regular deadheading.
Most varieties stay compact, between one and two feet tall, fitting easily into the front or middle of a sunny perennial border.
Shearing coreopsis back by about a third mid-season, after the first flush of blooms fades, often triggers a strong second round of flowering later in summer.
